The EPA awarded Toyota the Energystar for long term dedication to protecting the environment.

"The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA) with a 2007 ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting our environment through energy efficiency. Toyota's accomplishments will be recognized at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on March 21, 2007."

You can read more here. There's also some neat facts at the bottom of the article about Toyota and when they first produced cars in America and all. Really intersting at how long they've been here!

It's great to hear a company cares about the environment and is making an effort to make it better.

That's great. I wonder how far you actually have to go to get one of these awards? Cutting down emissions to a certain percent, or just coming out with a hybrid or two?

I give Toyota's marketing department alot of credit for the positioning of the company they've been able to create. Sure, Toyota is a bit greener and has taken some chances to get there, but some much is marketing.

At least someone is making an effort. In my book that counts for something.

Yes, but ...and there are a few 'buts'. According to one article in the news this morning, hybrids are more likely to cost more in repair bills to keep running.
