I have 06 Tundra, which has no dipstick. I asked the dealership about this. They said, it was a sealed trans, you dont have to change the fluid for 90,000 miles. I am like you, I would like to change mine after break in, maybe to a royal purple synthetic. It sounds like a manual trans, you have a drain plug, and a filler plug at bottom of pan. I dont know enough about this trans to do this myself, will probably take it to the dealership for fluid change. Good luck

This the car makers way of making sure you have to take the vehicle back to the dealer to get these things done. i don't like having that little control.

You can always do it. Manual trans are sealed as well, but you just have to find where the plugs are (drain, fill up) You just need a bottle with the punp filler and you're set.

I knew that some systems were sealed, but I never knew you could unseal them yourself. Paperclip, have you done much unsealing yourself? And is it easy enough to reseal?

The term "sealed" simply means there's no filler spout.

There are 2 access ports (one on the bottom for draining, and one on the side for filling). They are I believe 19mm screwed-in metal caps.

If you want to check your tranny fluid, unscrew the top-side one and stick your finger in. If you feel fluid you are topped up.

If your tranny is a manual, change the fluid yourself every couple of years is a good idea. The bottom screw will have a built-in magnet to attract the metal shavings....make sure you clean it off. Refilling is easy but you need a hand-operated-oil-pump ($20 at an automotive store).

If your tranny is automatic, please take my advice and go to a specialist and ensure they do a "flush". This is a specialized piece of eqpt that pushes fluid/cleaner through. It will clean-out metal shavings that get trapped in your torque-converter that you will never get by changing the fluid yourself.

Hope this helps somebody out there. Got Goat ?

Thanks for all that info - goatman :)

I really did picture a solid container that never needed changing. My old Stanza was a manual and it had a sealed system, but it had dope in it - is that the same situation?
