I'm planning on changing the fluid in my recently bought 1994 Toyota with an automatic transmission. Is there a way to drain the torque converter without dropping the transmission? It is a 1994 pickup 2 wheel drive with an automatic transmission behind a 22re engine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/liebe011.gif)

Have you called the local mechanic? They can usually tell you exactly how if it is possible. Could save you a lot of time and frustration if it can be done! Good luck with it..

There should be a hose that leads from the torque converter to the tranny, try finding it and pulling that out to drain it that way. Or you could drop the pan, drain it, drive around the block a few times and re-drain it. Then do it 2 more times to get most, if not all, of the old tranny fluid out.

If you really want to purge all of the fluid, take the truck to a lube shop. They will disconnect the cooler lines and use the transmission's internal pump to circulate the old fluid out while new fluid is pumped in. They usually let it run 'til the fluid looks clean. You pay by the amount of clean fluid it takkes to get there.
