Has any one ever had to "reset" their computer? The reason I am asking is that I had my transmission replaced (under warrentee) due to a faulty Throttle Body assembly. Yes I did towe a 27' TT but 2006 we went seasonal and no towing (just to try it, I'm going back to towing we do not like sitting in the same camp ground) The transmission was replaced (august 2005) after we parked the travel trailer and with in the past four months (May 2006) I started have this little thud at times when I came to a complete stop and let up on the break, the truck shifts great up and down through the gears, the dealer said I should grease the drive shafts and the rear leafsprings (did that) it still does it. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Thanks for the help
Dave

I don't see how it can hurt to reset your computer, just to see if that solves the problem. We had to do that after fixing the heater in our Corolla. I hope you can fix it by your next camping trip. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hey fellow Goats !! Yes, I had that same noise happen in my 89 4Runner. It's nothing. Don't worry about it.

If you have a spare underneath your back-end, it could be the tire with a little slop in it. Could be your drive shaft. Could be your undercarriage as a whole hitting against a stop. But don't worry...it's nothing.

As for resetting your computer...it can be done but only if your engine light is on. Then you use an OBD II code reader and reset your PCM module. Since your engine light doesn't come on....ergo...nothing is wrong.

Go forth....tow....and camp like a Canadian Goat eh !!!

ROFL...I love these forums.

As far as I know all Toyotas do this. There is a temp sensor somewhere that locks it out until a certain temp. This is normal operation that is explained in the owners manual if you have one.

Hmmm....Read the owner's manual? What a novel suggestion. :) Have never before owned a Toyota with an automatic, so I'll check the manual...thanks.

Automatically locking out of OD when cold is a Toyota thing as I discovered long ago with my Camry. I didn't know they did it on the 4Runners also and don't recall seeing it in the manual (which I did read). Funny to read this today. When I drove off this morning, I had frost on the windows and the OAT was probably 40?F or less. I get on the highway only a few miles from home so I wondered if my '99 4Runner, 6- cyl whould keep me out of OD, but it did not. Maybe they only make the 4-cyl models that way? Then again, it will only lock you out for the first minute or two, before the temp gauge shows the engine fully warmed. Maybe mine was warm enough before I reached the highway. Anyway, relax and drive easy those first few cold miles until all the fluids warm up and reach the proper viscosity to lubricate the moving parts while they reach proper operating temperature. With any luck, you will make it past 300,000. My '93 Camry, 4-cyl is almost there at it has endured a hard, torturous life with this driver. By comparison, I baby the 4Runner. The owner's manual doesn't say anything, but it makes sense that if Toyota incorporates this feature on one vehicle you might expect it on others. The weather was a bit warmer this AM - just over 40 - and the car upshifted without the warm-up I noticed the last few days of freezing temperatures. I really don't have much choice other than driving easy with this truck - it's the slowest vehicle I've owned since my '65 VW :) Thanks for your replies...looking forward to seeing 300,000.

My '94 with a V-6 and auto tranny does the same thing when it's below freezing. I just learned to live with it with no apparent harm. Joe B.

Thanks...glad to know. I was concerned because that 4-cyl seems to be working its heart out before it upshifts.
