RE: 2004 Highlander Limited
I bought the car brand new for my wife and soon discovered the same issue that a lot of people have been complaining about - there is a hesitation when stepping on the gas. I have now driven at least 10 of these from 2004 - 2005 and every single one I've been in has similar hesitation. On mine, it actually wasn't as bad as some others I was in. When I would step on the pedal all the way, there was a delay before the car sort of snapped into gear and took off. Just ordinary speeding up from say 20 or 30 to 70 was fine. It was primarily when I would be at a merged stop on an on ramp at rest, then gunning it. There was a definite hesitation.
Remedy: I just brought it into the dealer and they re-flashed the ecu with a transmission update. Much more smooth than it was and it seemed to do the trick. I will report back in a week, but I just picked it up today and it was very different.
Anyone else try this for their hesitation? If not, call your dealer or any dealer. It's covered under warranty.
