Hi I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, Two weeks ago I had to have the transmission replaced because it kept jumping out of third gear. Now this week my son who has a 2000 Rav4 and his started to jump out of 5th gear. What's up with that. Toyota replaced my transmission. but what kind of a bill to fix his is he looking at? Any information you can supply will help.
Thanks

I am having that exact problem with my 1998 Rav4 and from what I see on the internet it has been a common problem with Tacoma's and Rav4's for years. Many people have cited $3000 - $4000 for repairs. One person suggested that it is a gear that is made out of aluminum that wears down. Out haven't had mine fixed yet but if that is what it costs then so much for Toyota "quality"! My Rav4 has barely 80,000 miles on it, I've replaced the front calipers and have to invest $500 - $600 on the rear brakes. Next time I'll go with a Honda! Check out Google by typing in "rav4 problems with 5th gear" (without the quote marks) to see how common this problem is. Also check out what I found here: http://www.auto123.com/en/community/forum/...164167b1f73f710
