Hi all, I live in the CO Mountains and during a recent very cold spell I came out to start my Prius. It started, all the warnings lights came on and then the car died and would not restart. Later in the day it did start but all the warnings lights stayed on. The dealer towed it in and told me it was most likely a frozen gas line. They also said that the warning lights have to be "turned off" by them. They also informed me not to put "Gas Dry or Heat" in the tank. Has anyone else had problems with their Prius like this?

Several of us survived the nasty winter in Minnesota last year just fine. In fact, Christmas Day last year is when I took my -13F photos. The Prius sat outside all that day and started without any trouble afterward. I never saw the turtle or any warnings throughout that entire artic season either.

I'd strongly discourage using any additive in the gas. The Prius is designed to run on just run-of-the-mill gas under all conditions.

JOHN
http://john1701a.com

Hi John1701a - This is msdickerson. I notice that you are one of the best organized persons detailing your Prius history on your web site wonderfully. Anyway I wanted to ask you in an open format about your experience with highway speed handling. I find my Prius a bit squirly at highway speeds -especially during windy times. I run about 40 lbs pressure all around and find the car to have a sensation of oversteering. Do you think I should bother with a realignment or try to lower the pressures or perhaps try to find a antiroll bar for the front end? I appreciate your input - or anyones input that has had the same sensations..

I still love the car and recommend it to everyone, but I would like it a bit more stable on the highway.

Thanks for any input - from the "also cold" upstate New York (Renselaerville).

steve dickerson

Arrrrgh! My PC crashed (from doing too much simultaneously for too long) and I lost the long, detailed reply to you. So you get the short & sweet instead...

I really don't have any problems on the 70 MPH part of my commute. Those 40 MPH cross gusts in the Spring are a pain, but it doesn't give reason to feel unstable. So it wouldn't hurt for you to find out what your alignment is, since we know that being off by too much causes wandering at high speeds (and accelerated tire wear). There should be 0.05 DEGREES of toe IN each side, for a total of 0.10 DEGREES.

JOHN
http://john1701a.com

Just this message after posting the others. I guess the remaining question is when did you get the toe checked (assuming that you did)?
Thanks for your patience.
Pudwuzzy.

I had this same experience when I first got my Prius, but for 15 years prior, I was driving a 1981 Gran Prix. I was used to driving a boat. After a few months, I settled into the Prius and have learned to adapt and have adjusted so that it no longer feels squirrely. I don't mean to sound trite, but the advice I have is you'll get used to it and as you become more comfortable, your driving will become more steady on those highway speeds.
