Hello, We are new toyota owners of a 2002 sienna xle and we are really enjoying it. But I was wondering if any of you have heard if the Tundra is going to get a diesel engine anytime soon? Any comments?

Sennia is the the best mini-van on the market now! I hope Toyota goes with a diessel on the Tundra. I use to work at the TMMI plat that built them and had not heard of a plan for a diessel since the truck is only marketed as a 1/2 ton pick-up. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Working for a Toyota dealership the Tundra might not actually be called a Tundra very much longer. In your question about a diesel, the new truck that toyota will be releasing which can be see @ buyatoyota.com, it will be alot bigger competing maybe with the 3500 silverado, or the F-350 may be including a diesel and a hybrid diesel, now please not this is not set in stone because not too many people actually know what they are going to to with these trucks but you can believe that the next Toyota truck will be very large and very, very, big.

It seems anymore Toyota is becoming the standard of what everyone judges trucks by.

I'm still surprised at the lack of diesel vehicles to buy here in the US. I got used to them in the UK and would really like another one. Is it because the push is toward green that they aren't making more diesels?

Tacoma is the best-selling compact/midsize truck right now and the new Tundra is a serious competitior in the half-ton truck market. Also, a lot of industry experts expect it to challenge for the title of the best-selling fullsize truck in the near future.
If Toyota comes out with a diesel 3/4 and 1-ton truck they may very well lead the truck market.

Toyota has been rumored to be coming out with a Tundra HD with a diesel option as an '08 or '09 model. With the experience they have in making diesel engines in vehicles they sell in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, I wouldnt at all be surprised to see them come out with a diesel Tundra.
Toyota recently bought up GM's share of Isuzu and have partnered with Isuzu for the production of diesel engines. Isuzu makes the Duramax diesel engine that GM puts in their Silverado/Sierra HDs, so whats to say that Isuzu wont work with Toyota in designing a diesel V8?

Aparently its not that hard. The 5.7L V8 in the Tundra beats GM's 6.0L V8 by 20 hp. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s12.gif)

Give me a Tuundra any day over a GM. It's funny how the Tundra gets trashed but I see them everywhere.

Hino, Toyota's truck division makes MUCH better diesels than GM or Ford. Both the Duramax and the Navistar are 454 (GM) and 490 Ford) gas V8 blocks the manufactures could not shut down the plant that was casting them. So they got Izuzu (GM) and International (Ford) to retrofit them for Diesel use. When the 7.3 Ford Navistar came out it had MAJOR cavitation issues. Dodge with the off the shelf Cummins is the only one SO FAR to get it right. Love to see a off the shelf Hino diesel in a Tundra. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/banana.gif)
