Hello,
I'm looking to purchase a Turbo diesel for a trip to South America from Canada ( 4 months), with my wife and 7 yr old.
I'm concerned of the fuel economy of a 4,2 L TD L.C..
There are three choices :
The Land cruiser 4,2L turbo diesel - 24 MPG average
The Prado 2.4 L turbo diesel Manual - 32 MPG ave
The TOyota Hilux Surf 2,4l Turbo diesel. ___ MPG

We are not towing anything, so my question is regarding the Prado - overall strength.
I read about cracked heads, any volume to these?
The 13b-t engine also gets great reviews on many after market sites

I hope someone can help choose, I would like to purchase a vehicle soon and test it before we leave in dec 07.
Kind regards

Guy

Hi! I think it is a great idea to do that trip... But if you go to South America, where are you going? Do a lot of research before you go. I come from Venezuela, and I can tell you that finding a diesel gas pump was not that easy. Gasoline in South America is very cheap. Right now, to the exchange, it is like $0.20 per gallon. You can fill up the tank with 3 bucks. Also, depending on where you go, you´ll see that communication between countries is not nearly as easy as you might imagine. Those are mainly third world countries, and there is a lot of guerilla around. I wish you the best.

Read that first post and really wondered what happened to the guy and his trip.
I once drove with a friend across Australia in a Land Cruiser with no problems save it
was not the best for sleeping in some nights! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/s10.gif)
