I have a 2005 PRIUS with 55,000 miles. I would really like to know if the problems I am having are the norm for other PRIUS owners.
Also, at approximately 17,846 miles the check engine light came on and we took the car in for service and were told cylinder #1 was misfiring. We took it in again at 18,368 miles and coil #1 was replaced (fixed under warranty). The check engine light coming on became a continual issue and at 19,841 miles it was explained that it was probably caused by a leak in the windshield (a known field service notice) and the windshield was replaced. At 31,426 miles cylinder#1 was diagnosed as misfiring and #1 ignition coil replaced (fixed under warranty). We were still complaining about the check engine light at 45,118 miles. Finally at 45,184 miles they were able to finally diagnosis a problem with the fuel injector on cylinder #1 at considerable labor cost to us! It appears to us that cylinder #1 needed to have the fuel injector replaced from the very beginning – at 17,846 miles. Unfortunately, in our case, the correct diagnosis was not made until after our warranty costing us $350.00 for something that should have been fixed while our PRIUS was still under warranty.
Just recently the driver side HID headlamp turned pink and we took it into the dealer to find out what kind of bulb was needed to replace the damaged bulb and how to do it. There weren't any instructions in the manual. We were told that the bulb could only be replaced by the dealer. The cost of the bulb was $350 with an additional $200 for labor. Considering we were used to buying headlamps for $10 and replacing them ourselves a bill of $550 came as a shock. We expected the cost of the HID lamp to be higher then lamps for our previous vehicles.
Are these things "normal" for a PRIUS or am I being taken? It seems to me that a bulb that costs $350 should last longer then 3 years??
I'm thinking that this is the last Toyota product that we buy. We never had issues with our Hondas.
