Hi all,
I was fooling about in the snow with my Hiace, had it in 4wd. After I was done I found a slippery surface (ice), di some reverse/forward, turned off 4wd, did same, unlocked hubs, did same. the problem is that it still feels like one or both hubs are locked. It feels draggy, and when I push in the 4wd button, sometimes I get the 4wd icon showing up on my display. Any ideas about what I did wrong and should do now? I don't want to drive it on dry pavement like this.

Cheers
Pardicus

So quickly understanding the idea...
The way to check whether one of the axles to tyres is still engaged so hub is locked is to drive with open engine cover. At least with LHD model is possible see axles whether they move.

An easier, and maybe safer way to check if hub is stuck is to first ensure that 4wd is not engaged on the dash. Then crawl under your van and try to turn the front drive shaft. If it doesn't turn, then I think that means at least one of your hubs is still locked. You may need two hands to turn the shaft.

Now, if it is stuck, I have no clue what to do...

Did you try backing up 30 ft with steering wheel straight?

Once the 4WD lamp on the dash goes out, it means the transfer case has dis-engaged.

This light is a good indication of what the transfer case is doing. If it's on, then the gears are locked in.

If you have auto hubs on your van, drop it out of 4WD and reverse up a little with your steering wheel straight. It should cause the hubs to let go.

I am not a fan of auto hubs as they can let go at the most crucial time - ie you are crossing a river and you have to reverse a little - they can unlock and leave you in the sh*t.
I far prefer manual hubs. At least you know when you lock them in, they are locked for good until you release them.
