I've been searching the archives trying to find some insight to this, but to no avail. Consumer Reports flags the V6 version of the 2003 4Runner as unreliable, but I can't find any concrete details on what that stems from. I know the 4.0L V6 is a new engine, so reliability data is limited, but someone must know what Consumer Reports is talking about. My wife and I are looking at a 2004 V6 4WD Limited, and I'd first like to understand what the issues with the V6 have been so I can hedge my bets on whether they may be resolved in the 2004 models, or whether they will require a few more model years to iron out the kinks, since it's a new powerplant. Any help? Thanks in advance, Gunman

The reliability problem occurred with the fuel rail in the fuel injection system. The 4Runners in question were recalled and fixed. You should have no problems with the V6 engine, now that the problem has been addressed. It's a steed vehicle with a potential of many 100's of thousands of miles. Yes, I'm biased, as I own a 4Runner, but also sell them as well since I'm a Toyota salesman. I've not seen any 2004 4Runners come in for the repair on the fuel rail and our customer base seems extremely pleased with their 4Runners. Erick: Excellent. Thank you for your post. The Consumer Reports simply shows that a higher percentage than average had issues with the fuel system, and I couldn't isolate whether it was an injector, pump, etc. issue. This is great news. BTW, I grew up in Circle City. Southside. Greenwood. Have been in Southern Californa for 18 years now. Gunman
