Hey, stoppin' in every few days. Its all very interesting to see what grows here. Anyway, here's a few this and thats...

DrinkNSux - I've always heard the 22R block w/ the 20R head to be called a cherry bomb. I'm told thats the best performance one can get using the genre of engine/parts. I've also been told to stay away from the fuel infected. I thought about doing one of these myself, but decided against it out of interest of money and wanting to keep my car looking in many ways stock. I understand that the 22R cylinders can be bored out good, but over all the 20R is more modifiable. *TAKE ALL THIS WITH A GRAIN OF SALT THO*-- I don't know my (explative) like you folks clearly do. Also stay away from the slightly used Japanese 22R's -- their measurements are a tad different on the machined parts and won't match the US 22R, and you have to get or mod all your components.

Labor - that truck tranny on your car, does the over all feel of the car change w/ using that trans (odd question, but what the heck)? Also, does it match up w/o problem?

Getro - talking w/ folks, thinking about it, I may look for a side intake. I'm only familiar w/ Webbers at this point, and I understand that there are other good brands (dudh) out there that are less costy. So if I can find something, I'll go for it. Hope I didn't seem indignant the other day.

Does anyone suggest NOT putting a limited slip into a '76 HB. Again, I don't know much about these, but have been told that it could be bad on a vechicle that light -- lock ups you don't want.

Any suggestions on replacing ageing steering geer boxes in my '76? I'd like to keep the same feel of the car, get something new, and not have to take a loan against my vital organs to do it. Or should I just point my sights to TRD just the same?

I've heard that there are after blowers available for the 20R, but cost about $1K (ouch, to me). Does anyone know if it is possible to use a 2nd one of the air pumps on the right side of the 20R engine to make the same sort of thing (clearly a mod) and perhaps hang it in place of the stock AC?

I like the idea of the shirts/stickers -- I'm interested. I prefer a back print. Long sleves? White? Heather gray? Green, yellow. Oh, maybe I'm fussin' the finer details just yet.

Anyway, see you guys on the flip in a few days. Take care.

CELICAMON,
TRANNY WILL FIT RIGHT IN BUT THEY ARE A FEW TYPES TO CHOOSE....ACTUALLY, JUST MAKE SURE THE SHIFTER MATCHES UP THE WHOLE IN YOUR CAR. AS FOR PERFORMANCE , NOT MUCH DIFFERENCE BUT THE TRANNY COMPONENTS INSIDE IS MORE HEAVY DUTY AND WOULD LAST LONGER SPECIALLY, IF YOU HAVE A POWERFUL ENGINE. RALLY ROADS HERE IN CALIFORNIA IS MOSTLY MOUNTAIN SIDES, VERY TIGHT AND TWISTY. WE RARELY GO TO 3RD GEAR AND USUALLY ON 1ST AND 2ND GEAR SHIFTING BACK AND FORTH REVING 6000-8000
RPM AND BELIEVE ME, YOU NEED THAT HEAVY DUTY TRANNY.
LIMITED SLIP-THERE ARE A FEW KINDS TO CONSIDER.
SOME TO SAVE MONEY JUST WELD THEM WHICH, I WOULD DISCOURAGE IF YOU WILL USE YOUR CAR FOR DAILY COMMUTE. FOR RACING,IT IS AN ADVATAGE TO HAVE ONE!! DEPENDS ON THE SIZE OF YOUR DIFFERENTIAL EITHER 7 OR 8, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO USE A LIMITED SLIP OF A CELICA GTS 84-85 MODEL WHICH CAME STANDARD ON THAT MODEL. ALSO,MAKE SURE YOU USE GEAR OIL FOR LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL ONLY.
BLOWERS-RUMOR HAS IT THAT IF YOU ARE TO USE IT FOR RACING,JACKSON RACING WHO MANUFACTURES BLOWERS WILL GIVE IT FOR FREE AND YOU INSTALL. MY OPINION ON BLOWERS IS TO MUCH WORK BUT AND YOU WILL NOT GET MUCH HP COMPARE TO TURBO. YOU WIL PROBABLY SPEND MORE AND HAVE MORE HEADACHE. GO TURBO
STEERING BOX-GO TO THE JUNK YARD!!!WHAT I DID IN MY RALLY CAR IS TAKE OUT THE POWER STEERING. I AM USING A QUICK STEER BOX FROM TRD (LAST ONE TO BE FOUND). IN DIRT ROADS AND TARMAC, YOU CAN FEEL THE ROADS AND CONTROL THE CAR BETTER. ALTHOUGH, IT IS A PAIN DOING A 3 POINT TURN!!!!
HEY THERE IS A GUY HERE SELLING TWIN MIKUNI FOR $350.00-INTERESTED???? HE IS ALSO SELLING A LC ENGINEERING MADE STAGE 5 20rHEAD COMPLETE FOR
$850.00,NOT A BAD PRICE SINCE NEW IS $1,499.00
HURRY!!!BECAUSE, I MIGHT BUY IT MYSELF FOR SPARE.

Gratz Labro for the depthfull reply on trans, limited slip, blowers and geerbox. Very much appreciate the advice as I find I am oftend doing more planning than expected for my project, and research is crucial. No power steering in the first series of Celica, although the alternator for the GT could handle that in addition and plenty other luxury electronic components.... so when parking, I end up using my car as exercise equipment -- keeps the arms lean JK.

As for the parts for sale -- thanks for the heads up, but... In short I would say I could be interested in the Mikuni & I know a local fellow who could be interested in the head but probably go for it yourself.

Reasons being... While, as we all know, it is unrealistic to be low budget when/if restoring/mod'ing/customizing a car, I am trying to avoid excessive expendature and/or unnecessary insane speed capacities. In the area I live in, top legal mph is 60 with a few spots at 70mph -- while I want to boost performance and/or improve efficency, anything more is fun but frankly useless...I'm not ultimately looking to do track racing or play Gone In 60 Sec's w/ the cops. This being the first of a number of planned restoration jobs, I look at it as a learning experience; once I have the experience and move on to additional rigs, I'll get these nicer parts and do better work and not be worried about screwing anything up. Finally, right now I'm in the beginning of making a career change, so the work I can do on my project at present has also changed. I have to be careful with my moo-lah, so for the time being I can't go out and do big stuff like paint the car, do the interior, etc.... at this time I can safely afford sand paper, primer, etc and do the elbow grease work that would need to be done at some point anyway. A rebuilt stock head for $150-$250 is far more in my means vs. a performance $850 head. Thanks much for the offer, and I'll get back to you asap about the Mikuni (gotta move on good deals when they're available), but that head makes my wallet smoke just thinking about it. Also, is this Mikuni new or used?

Thanks, see ya around.
