Brought it to the mechanic and they can't figure out what is wrong -so they told me to come back next week.

Anyway, my car vibrates and I wonder if it is a recall that I missed. It basically vibrates at low speeds when accelerating near 35 mph. I doesn't seem to vibrate at high speeds above 40-50 mph. The tires were checked already and they are fine. The abs also seem to grip or "work" in dry clean surface when at speeds of 1-10 mph almost all the time whether I'm moving forward or backward.

Anybody have an idea?

It is a 2002 avalon xl.

I've heard somewhere that it could be the crankshaft?

I also need to drive it for 3000 miles next month - I wonder if its safe.

Thanks.

Viberations huh. Well do you think that it is from the tires or the motor? My first question is are you driving on custom rims?? Or are they the ones that came with the car. An experience i had was one of my rims (aftermarket) was slightly bend due to hitting a curb possibly, but the thing is it was still able to be balanced so you couldnt tell. secondly are you feeling the vibs in the steering wheel or gas peddles or else where? If you could try and describe what the vibs are like and where they are commin from...

The shop said that they swap it with different tires and it was still vibrating.
The wheels are not custom at all but they don't look exactly like original wheels - I just bought this car recently.
The vibrations are NOT felt on the steering wheel. The entire car body is the one that vibrates. The second issue is the ABS trying to work - I feel it on the pedals only.

When it vibrates - it seems to be coming from he wheels or just the whole car.

Thanks.

From what you're telling us; low-speed vibration, ABS 'trying to work' (at low-speed), felt in the pedals and not the steering wheel, etc. leads me to suggest that your brake rotors may be warped. That would cause a pulsing effect at low speeds that are felt in the pedal. Next I'd look at the drive shafts and the constant velocity joints (do you hear a crunching sound at low speed while turning hard corners?).

I think you've already eliminated the tires and wheels - look elsewhere.

I think the issues are more clear to me now....There are two problems, to clarify...

(1.) @1-4 mph the abs is "gripping" or "working" whether I'm accelerating, braking, or driving in reverse.
Also, I'm not driving in snow, mud or loose gravel. I've been driving in clean dry asphalt or pavement.

(2.) @35 mph the tires seem to wobble or the car vibrate. This issue disappears immediately above 39 mph.

Thanks.

I would have to agree, There is a balance issue going on with your car... IF you have a drive shaft, which i am not familiar with you car if its front wheel drive or rear. If its rear, there could be a bad balance oon the drive shaft or if its a split shaft, the carrier barring could be going out. If its front wheel drive, the cv boots could be shot, ... also another thing you could check on is if your struts are bad... If you go and push down on the front of you car ...does it bounce easily and continue to go up and down?? I had in one case that the struts were so shot that they wherent absorbing the bumps in the road so the tires where bouncing off the road conditions. If you push down on the car and it simply goes down then comes right back up to form and there is no secondary bounces then your good. Ok other than thoes issues the last thing i could possibly say about the vibrations is if it happens at low speeds and mid speed but goes away after you are at highway speeds , Check the motor mounts. Thinking about it this could also be a big possibility. The way you could check that is to have the hood up and have some one else start the car while you watch the engine. if the engine wobbles on start up and continues to as it idles BAD! now if it doesnt continue, have the person hold the brake and put the car in drive. if the engine wobbles then ...BAD. that is a simple way to check the motor mounts. Also visually inspect them... Anyways keep us informed.. I hope this helps ...
