Greetings from a new Avalon Limited owner. I am curious, has anyone with an Avalon experienced problems with the Voice Activated Navigation system. Problems such as not identifying voice commands. For example, I'll say "Home" and system will respond "Displaying ski areas" or "Displaying Banks" or some other nonsensical reply. I have gone back to the dealer, but they seem to know less about navigation system than I. Just wondering if anyone has experienced similar problem.

I have noticed on my LTD that voice recognition is not that great. There are times when a command is given when the system is not in the correct mode, i.e. not in guidance mode for example, and the voice recognition gives a reply which is the 'best match' for the current mode. I have also found that using the longer for of the command, e.g. 'go home', rather than just 'home' works better as it gives the voice recognition more to work with. This system would work better with a little voice training but that does not seem to be available.

The voice recognition software should get better as time goes on and technology changes, but until then I'm just glad to not get entirely lost.

There are always a few gliches in new technology, and it may be that voice recognition in the car won't ever completely work when the car is moving (an acoustics thing) who know, maybe it will.

I would imagine that the manufacturers take acoustics into mind when designing the program for car usage, and the technology should only get better and better.

You would think that, but it is not necessarily true. I've been in theaters where the architects didn't take acoustics into account so few scientists and engineers forgetting about it would not shock me.

Yes, I have experienced the same problems with the NAV system. I really don't know of a solution at this time.
