I have a 1993 pickup 22re engine with a water in oil problem. I have replaced the head gasket, head, head bolts, run liquid glass through it and still have a small leak. It doesnt leak so much when its running as it does when its sitting under pressure after its been driven. I was told by my uncle that he thinks it is a crack in the back plate behind the water pump? I am going to pull the water pump in the morning and see what I can find, but was wanting to see if anyone here had any ideas as well, besides a cracked block( crossing fingers). I didnt even know there was a back plate behind the water pump. Also, I know I can get the pump off relatively easy, but if I have to go deeper does that entail removing the head again as well as the oil pan?

The water pump is mounted on the Timing Chain cover.
The TC may have worn a hole thru the TC cover, allowing oil and coolant to mix.
If so, the cover and complete TC set need to be replaced. Also, coolant in the oil is not good for the crank bearings.
