Hi,

For everyone here that already owns a Toyota Prius, can you tell me what you think of it? I have been thinking about getting one. I have not been to the dealership as of yet, but I am hoping they can do them for short term lease.

I just want to know everyone's thoughts on the ones you have. Ecspecially with the gas hike, have they really been saving you a lot of money?

I don't own one, but I'd like to. I've heard people do save a lot. How much does one cost?

I know they get some of the best gas milage, but it would take commuting across country for that to make up for the added cost. I look forward to when the cost comes down or used ones start showing up.

I think I'l have to look up the gas mileage, unless someone here knows it and do some figuring. Currently we drive about 1500-2000 miles a month, which I have since found out is a lot. It may be in our best interest to go ahead and buy a Prius. Does toyota offer any other hybrids?

That is alot of milage and it's about the same that my husband drives. But the money that you save on just gas milage doesn't justify the cost of the hybrids, atleast not for us - YET.

I'm waiting to see what people have problems with and to see what happens when the vehicles are used. Hybrid technology is so cool, but I think a lot of hybrid ownership lies with the status of the concept.

I agree that there are no real benefits to they hybrids just yet. Even with the tax incentives, they cost more and don't get you anywhere any cheaper. They are a status symbol much like the mercedes was at one time.

I've had mine since September of 2005. I get about 50 mpg in town and 40 on the highway.

I live in a rural area where there's a lot of snow, mud and roads that are tough driving part of the year.
The only people here so far who own a Prius are wealthy weekenders who have a 4x4 in garage (and use it!). Definitely status at this point.

I personally don't own one..a little expensive for my tight budget..but I have heard they are worth the savings in gas. If you don't travel far and alot, then it may not be the vehicle you need.

I might be sold on them if more vehicles become available like this one...and prices drop because of the competition...as of now, I will stick with the gas guzzlers too!

I know a few people who own them, and as of right now, they are not really saving a great deal. The extra money it costs for the car, does not make up for the gas mileage increase.

I drive a much cheaper corolla, and my gas mileage on the freeway matches the Prius (if I drive like a human being that is).

That's actually an excellent point about the hybrids ...most of the people I know who drive them are
pretty well off types who are trying to make an environmental statement ....what they sort of hide is the SUV
or big Mercedes in the garage. They haven't really gotten rid of anything!

I Know! I knew someone that bought the very first hybrid to come out, and he had an expedition in the garage!

I know! They have cars with decent gas mileage for a fraction of the cost, with proven technologies, with at least twice the horsepower. They need to step it up a notch.

Very good points...I definately don't want one now...but I think that eventually, we will see more of it's type and prices may decrease.
