Hi all,
I just got a 90 Hiace and was wondering where the battery was located. I also got these Xaxon wheels that only has this one big nut about 3 inches (can't see the wheel nuts) and wondering how I can change the tires. Do I take off this big nut to loosen the wheel or does it uncover the real wheel nuts?

Any help appreciated.

usually the battery is located behind the driver seat
if it is converted from right to left hand drive. just lift up the carpet and you will see the cover of the battery compartment. sorry, i have no idea about your wheels but if you can send a picture maybe i can help.

the big nut you mention is just a center piece to cover the real wheel nut.
i can not see it clearly in the picture but ther are two types of holding that center piece in place.
one is by several clips. in this case look for a notch around the center piece. use a screw driver to pry it loose. another one is, the center piece is treaded. in this case just turn the center piece .
pls. let me know which one worked

In my van, which looks much like yours, the batteries (two in parallel) are right behind the front passenger's seat.

My van is right hand drive.

It took me a while to check, but the center bolt needs to be unscrewed to expose the normal bolts. Need to use a plumber's wrench.

I found the battery today in my 95 Hiace, actually by accident, but I wont let that upset me in the least.
On a right hand drive you open the motor access by first lifting the coffee cup rest in the center of the car, in front of the gear selector. Once you open that you unhook the fastener that you find hidden underneath it (those boys at Toyota like to play hide and seek). Next lift away the carpet in front of the passenger seat (at the top, by the seat bottom) and undo the fastener there and then tip the seat and center armrest backwards and there you have your motor all gleaming and shiney in front of you (and mine really does, the guy that had this car in Japan must have loved it, I have never seen a motor bay so clean). By the door post with the access lid now lifted you will now see a panel with a twist-button on the top, twist and open and there, low and behold is the battery.

I hope this helps anyone searching for the battery, and even those not yet on this quest!
