Are you sure it's the flasher? Seems strange that a flasher would just quit on you.
What's not working to make you pinpoint the flasher?
I had a similiar problem with an 87 Honda civic, the dash indicator for the turn signals was flashing too fast. I thought I had a broken flasher. Turns out one of the turn signal bulbs in the back was burnt out. Once I replaced the bulb, the problem went away. It seems the Japanese cars of that decade were designed this way. Maybe you have the same problem?
I have an 87 pickup with the factory manual. Post again if you still have the problem. Maybe I can find it in the factory manual.
Either way, let us know how it goes. My flasher is only a year newer than years, and might be next!
Good luck,
Steve in Virginia
P.S. If it is the bulb, it's partner on the other side is probably about to die also. Safe yourself a second trip to the parts store and buy/replace both at the same time (IMG:
