I haven't worked on cars for about 30 years. I decided to work on my 96 4Runner. It has the V6 in it. It won't start. Where the he** is the starter on one of these things. I've been squirmin' all over the ground trying to figure it out and I finally came up with this ain't no '68 Firebird. For all I know maybe they don't have starters anymore, lol. Thanks Joe in WA

Joe, I have a 96. If you are sitting in the car looking forward, the starter is on the right back side of the engine. It is a bitch to get to. A while back, my 96 started having intermittent starting issues. This is a well known contact problem in the starter. After trying to get to it for an hour, I dropped it off at my trusted shop, and for $90, they pulled the starter, changed the contacts and re-installed it. Best $90 I've ever spent. Charlie

Thanks Charlie, I spent some more time under the 4Runner again today but I just can't seem to see it anywhere. It looks like it's gonna take a trip to the shop and let them worry about it. Thanks again, Joe

Joseph, On one hand - there should be a removable sheild in the right front wheel well that will give a visible shot of the starter - on the other hand this does not really make it more accessible to work on or remove. You may still end up having the shop do it - the starter is very difficult to get to on the 4Runner. John

Thanks, I figure if I can't find it I can't fix it so it goes over to the shop tomorrow. For my next trick I'll try fixing my Isuzu Trooper. Joe
