Not to burst anyone's bubble, but the CC IS BUILT INTO THE PRIUS THS.

Why complicate the system with wireless electronics?

If you're doubtful of MODS, wait for the inexpensive Toyota kit.

If not, do it for free--4 switches, 3 resistors, and a relay.

Jeff (not a flame--just that wireless cruise seems unjustified in the Prius)

CC may be built in, but it doesn't do any good unless there is a way to activate it. As I understand it, the wireless kit doesn't _replace_ the cruise that's already there, but is just a box that tells the computer when to turn it on and off.

The DIO cruise kit isn't shipping for a while, and judging by everything else with the Prius, there will probably be yet another waiting list. For those who want it now, the wireless kit seems like a great alternative. IMHO, it's an ingenious solution.

That being said, I'm probably going to order the DIO kit since my car isn't coming until July. But if I can't get it in time, I'll definitely look at the wireless one.

Cheers,
--Tom

The other point is that the "official" cruise kit requires wires to be run, and if you want to install the paddle on the steering column, it requires the air bag and the steering wheel to be taken. There is now way I would do that myself, and hiring the dealer to do it will no doubt run another 100 or 2.

Burns
(Still Just Driving my Saturn and waiting and drooling!)

I'm guessing that I will probably go with the Wireless/Remote Control cruise for a couple reasons.

1)Neither the dealer nor myself are making any real modifications to the vehicle (the cruise kit from Toyota may be covered under warranty, but it is still technically a modification).

2)The "coolness" factor. After all, how many people can say that they have remote control cruise?

I'm guessing that if Toyota's kit is actually priced at $220, the cost of having it installed will make it about the same price (if not more) than the remote cruise which is supposedly easy to install yourself. (Looking forward to the impression of midas89 after it's done.)

--Jeremy
(90+ days..just keep waiting, and waiting....)

Not understanding much about wireless technology, but what happens if you have two cars, both using the same wireless technology, driving next to one another on the highway. Is it like the problem of people opening others garage doors?

No. It is not like the problem of opening someone else's garage. Consider this remote to be very similar in operation to the remote that opens your car door(part of your security). The Coastal remote simply does more things. The remote for your car door, also has a number of codes but the likelyhood of someone else's opening your is infinitesimal. Not to mention you would simply hit your brake pedal to turn it off. The Coastal remote has 4 million codes so, it would be as likely as winning the lottery. Again, we use car door remotes every day without incident and we will use the Coastal remote the same way. The Coastal remote works just like a conventional cruise system the only difference is that you don't have a bunch of wires to try and hide and the remote is more convenient and fun to use. If you still have questions, please feel free to call me.
Coastal Dave
