Hey guys I am new here and I need some help! I currently have a 96 2dr 4wd Tahoe with 156k miles as my beater. I ride my Harley as much as possible to work 80 miles round trip. I have always wanted a Tacoma since they first came out. Anyway, I have a family member that is thinking about selling his '98 regular cab 4wd Tacoma with approx 240K. It runs and drives great and there are the normal dings and such. He says if he sells it he would probably ask $3000. I was just thinking of the truck bed space, better mpg's, and the possiblities for later fun. Does this sound like a decent price? It would only be driven to work during bad weather and trips to home depot and such.

Thanks in Advance,

Trae

Do a price check over on kbb.com and nada.com and see what you come up with. $3K sounds decent.

if you live in a place where slt is used alot this is prolly a good deal
because you can take it to a toyota dealer and put it in for the recall
the frames are rusting out and they are buying them back for 150%

KBB.COM says that it is a good deal, about right on the price. Not sure if it really makes a difference or not anymore but most if not all the miles are highway.

If I was to get it what would be some of the issues to look/prepare for?

So if I buy it and I see that the frame i rusted like you said what happens then the replace the frame or buy the truck? Sorry I didn't understand the above post. And 150% of what, the original price or the amount I would by the truck for?

But being in TX I sort of doubt this will be a problem.

they'll give you the option of fixing the frame but will suggest that you allow them to buy it for 150% of the kbb price

I agree, get the rust issued checked out at your local dealer. I've attached a copy of the recall letter that most owners have gotten. There was a rumor going around that you must have owned the truck for more than 6 months before they could buy back the truck or something like that, not sure if it's true or not.

My wife is worried about the mileage that the truck has. What sort of life span should I expect out of it? Oh it has the 2.7L 4 banger.

We are now trying to make sure that this move will be worth it. The Tahoe is getting about 16-18 mpgs and he said the Tacoma is getting around 21 mpgs
